“Dramatic, sexy, blistering handclap rock.”
Hotpress Magazine
WHEN BRINDLE first walked onto the stage in 1998, no one – not even the band – expected they would evolve into the hard hitting outfit of today.
Back then, Brindle’s less-is-more approach saw the songs driven by just an acoustic guitar and Deb Suckling’s whirlwind of a voice… but slowly, Brindle began to change.
Looking to expand their horizons and test the waters of completely different musical style, the band gradually began drifting away from their acoustic roots and embraced a powerful, dynamic new direction. Since then, the band has re-invented itself several times, constantly experimenting with different styles and approaches to songwriting. That attitude has seen Brindle grow into a band more interested in pushing their boundaries, than jumping on the latest musical bandwagon.
Drawing on influences ranging from Patti Smith to Sonic Youth, The Pixies and …The Trail of Dead, the Brindle sound is passionate and playful, powerful and intense…and never predictable.
Over the past six years, the Brisbane quartet has independently released three EPs (Brindle, Stories and Classification), and two singles (Catch/Candles and Fight You For It) through FunkFolk/MRA.
Each release has earned Brindle national airplay on the Triple J Network, ongoing support from community radio, and rave reviews from music press around the country. What’s more, the band has built a strong following up and down the east coast thanks to regular tours, consistent airplay and slots at major festivals including The Big Day Out and Brisbane’s Valley Fiesta.
Now, after an extended break to write and record their debut album It Takes An Army, Brindle have emerged full of energy, and armed with their best material to date. It Takes An Army was produced at various studios (BlackBox, Airlock, Wavelength) by engineer on the rise, Emerson Bavinton, (Gorgeous, Fagan, Gentle Ben and his Sensitive Side, Genshen).
Covering some serious sonic ground, the album showcases the bands’ ability to pen pop gems alongside the darker noise rock territory that has fueled their powerful live performances.
The first track Closer is receiving national airplay on Triple J and countless community stations and the album has been in the 4zzz top ten for the past month. The album was launched recently in a sell show in Brisbane, Gold and Sunshine Coasts.
The band has recently been invited to perform at Canadian Music Week in March 2006 and will be embarking on a national tour before heading to Canada, the US and the UK. The band is also in the process of securing distribution of the album in the UK next year.
It Takes An Army is out on November 14 through SugarRush Records and distributed nationally through Modern Music /Sony BMG.
