Paul Bruce Dickinson was born on August 7th, 1958 in Workshop, England. Everyone, except his parents and grandparents, insisted on calling him Bruce since he was young. His parents were young, around 17 or 18 when he was born, so for the first 5 years of his life, he was raised by his grandparents. To his grandfather, he was the son never born. To his grandmother, he was the little bastard who stole her daughter away. Whe Bruce was 5, he started to notice music, and he was listening to The Beatles. That's when his parents got good jobs and took Bruce back, and something he didn't like was that they didn't let him listen to music. Bruce was always distant from everybody he knew, especially his younger sister, because she was a planned child and he was an accident. That's when he started to doing strange things, because he discovered that he was strange to all around him. For junior high and high school, Bruce's parents sent him off to Oundle Boarding School so he'd start acting normal. When he was there, he discovered what is now his favourite band, Deep Purple. He also discovered that he wanted to be a musician. He started at 13 as a drummer, as well did he act in plays. He decided to sing at 15, when somebody told him he had a good voice. At age 16 1/2, Bruce was expelled from boarding school for urinating in the headmaster's dinner and being ratted on for it. His parents sent him to a Catholic high school for the remainder of the year, and his senior year. After that, he went off to Queen Mary's College in Sheffield. During his college years, Bruce joined many different bands, but finally settled for one after he dropped out. He settled on Samson, where he was accepted as a vocalist, under the name Bruce Bruce. He wrote most of the songs in Samson, and he loved it. But in late-1981, Bruce quit the band. He was getting bored of it. That's when Steve Harris, bassist and founder of Iron Maiden, along with their manager Rod Smallwood, came to Bruce and asked him to audition for Iron Maiden, seeing as they fired singer Paul Di'Anno. Bruce got the part, and in 1982, they released the album "The Number of the Beast". Many religious people saw it as a devil-worshipping album, but the song in question was just about a dream Steve had. By 1985, Bruce had found what happens to be one of his true passions: fencing. While not on tour with Maiden, Bruce would fence, and he was actually asked for the Olympics in 1998. He declined, because he was touring with Maiden. In early 1990, Bruce got married to second wife, Paddy Dickinson. The same year he released his first solo album, "Tattooed Millionaire", they had a son in August. Griffin Dickinson, which showed Bruce what, to this day he believes, the meaning of life is: the bring babies into the world. Griffin was born on their kitchen floor, Bruce delivered the baby there because Paddy didn't want to go to the hospital. 1992 saw the arrival of Bruce's second child, Austin Dickinson. Bruce was really becoming the father around home. In September of 1993, Bruce quit Iron Maiden. He was tired of being respected because he was in the band and wanted to earn his own repect. As well, he took up a career in airplane piloting. In 1994, Bruce released his first solo album as an actual solo artist, "Balls to Picasso". It wasn't necessarily metal, it was supposed to be something dark and different. As well, that year, Bruce's third and last child was born. Kia Michelle Dickinson, Bruce's only daughter. In 1997, Bruce went back to recording heavy metal with "Accident of Birth", which also had ex-Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith on it. By 1999, Bruce and Adrian had both rejoined Iron Maiden, and in 2000, the album "Brave New World" came out. Bruce's first and only (to date) best of album came out the next year, which he claims was made for real heavy metal headbangers, not people like Bon Jovi fans or anything like that. Iron Maiden with vocalist Bruce Dickinson is continuing to release albums, most recent being "Dance of Death" of 2003, and Bruce has maintained the titles of singer/pilot/fencer/football (soccer player)/husband/father. Actually, he's more than just that. Bruce Dickinson is an international superstar.
