bubbles is a great example of the modern age of music-making. Most of bubbles’ music is written, recorded, produced, and published at his home studio the Disco Room, in Portland, Oregon. Melodic and clever, bubbles’ music travels through a variety of styles and sounds to explore well painted sonic landscapes. bubbles began his music endeavors in his college days in Santa Cruz, California where hosted a pirate radio show on Free Radio Santa Cruz. He had frequent free style sessions on air sparking the beginnings of his musical journeys. He moved to Portland, Oregon in early 2001 where he met Absence, and together they started Transparent Productions (TP). TP is an independent collective of producers and musicians who recorded and released 10 albums. bubbles’ first release is a hip-hop EP entitled “I Ain’t No Ape”. This bubbly and effervescent collection of wacky and bumping tracks only wet his appetite for creating and recording music. A full length electronic album called “The RMX Sessions” followed. This was bubbles’ first all solo project dedicated to the groove box RM1X. The last track “Trancy” is one of the most popular bubbles’ tracks on I-Tunes. More recently bubbles released a variety of albums under his new label, Bubbles Media Services. The most notable of these releases is the excellently crafted, full-length “Commuter” album. According to music writer Bob Ham:
“Commuter is a concept album, an instrumental narrative that follows Bill, the titular commuter who on one fateful day, gets dosed on the train taking him to work. Unable to remove himself from the train, the album uses a variety of moods and genres to evoke his physical journey, as well as the psychological and spiritual journey he finds himself on. The clear-eyed vision that bubbles brings to this album is one that he has been honing for years,”
bubbles produces for other artists and writes scores of songs for himself and others. Along with the production work, he publishes and markets the music himself through Bubbles Media Services. bubbles music can be found on over 30 download sites including Itunes, E-music, Napster, and Soundclick. Bubbles Media Services provides solutions to new independent artists who want to take full control of their music, and to organizations that want to join in on the ground level of a new music business model.
To round out the rest of his skills and interests bubbles is an exquisite DJ who plays a wide variety of music. He not only has had the chance to play for small, hot, house parties lasting into the wee hours of the morning, large corporate events that provided great entertainment for large groups, he also plays with several different bands and DJs including 26 of Portland’s best at the 2007 Portland Marathon. bubbles can DJ, but he is also a proficient MC and has rapped in groups and solo with unique style and drive. He is a performer, music lover, music maker, and he is defiantly bubbling from the underground up.
