Buckethead is really Brian Carroll, a rather shy guitarist who was raised in South California right near Disneyland. As a teen he took up playing the guitar and was inspired by people such as Angus Young, the late Randy Rhoads, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Unlike his inspirers Carroll is not comfortable doing mane-tossing guitar moves. Many people ask why he wears a mask and a bucket on his head. Well, the mask was inspired by the 1988 fright flick “Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers” and the bucket was inspired by him eating take out fried chicken and putting the mask on and then the bucket and looking in the mirror. He liked what he saw and kept the look. His sounds are not like other sounds you would hear on earth, but very original. Many people have not heard of Buckethead except for recently due to his stint with Guns N’ Roses. Surprisingly, Brian has been recording solo albums for more than 10 years. In 1999 Monsters and Robots was released and is said to have a “post-metal psycho-shred” type of sound. Most recently released was Electric Tears which was serenely ambient. Buckethead also records under Death Cube K. Carroll has recorded and performed with Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrel, Iggy Pop, Primus, and Bill Laswell.
