Perkins was one of the stars in the constellation of talent that emerged from Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950's. Along with an amazing group that included Johnny Cash, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Ike Turner, Charlie Rich, Elvis, Roy Orbison, B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Howlin' Wolf and others, Carl Perkins helped ignite Rock n' Roll's first wave. His own version of "Blue Suede Shoes" (recorded by Sam Phillips at Sun) sold two million copies in 1956 when million-sellers were rare, and a few years later Elvis' version insured Perkins' financial situation. An inspiration to The Beatles, he guested on several of their projects, like playing one of the backup guitar parts on "Ebony And Ivory", the duet between Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. Perkins died in 1998, having been inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987. He was buried in Jackson, Tennessee.
