(Jan.15,2008) Close to half of the songs we do in a show are original. My beginning in music was as a writer and singer...but it didn't take long to realize there was a void without a guitar in hand. My first guitar was a flea market Yamaha with a warped neck (I didn't know about that flaw until later). After long nights of frustration beating around in the living room, I remember crying when I learned my first chord on that thing. Now, my arsenal includes two Taylors and a Breedlove....but I still have that Yamaha and occasionally take my first child out of its case and pluck around to remind myself of the sweetness of the beginning of a trip.
The sound is Americana blues/rock with a touch of modern mountain. Driven by two guitars, mandolin, even a cigar box guitar, electric bass, harmonica and other instruments, Carrie Beason & Big Mo is a unique and memorable sound.
Carrie's album of original songs,'Painfully Happy', is receiving air play in the states and Europe.
It's backed by the Skeletons, described by a New York Times entertainment writer as "The best damn bar band in America." "She has a Stevie Nicks voice to compliment her Allison Krause like harmonies, showcasing her talent." (XPress Paper) "Beason writes traditional songs which carry this writer back to the times of Payton Place with a strong shot of Happy Days.
On Cinderella, Carrie reaches within, like Jeannie C. Riley and on Manipulatin' Queen, the Rockabilly sound would make Wanda Jackson jealous!"(J Gjaltema, AltCountry) "'Painfully Happy' is a damn good record. Keep it coming!"(Radio Golden Flash)
