| CATEGORY FIVE's hard rockin’ roots were well established even before this South Carolina foursome got together in the Fall of 2003. Guitar player Hunt, drummer Kelly Harris , bass player Richard "Turk Jr." Taylor and former Black Cat frontman Byron Hopkins are all well seasoned musicians on the South Carolina music scene and have also been good friends for years. Named after the most powerful hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale, CATEGORY FIVE delivers fresh new songs packaged into a modern classic rock sound.
With the February 2004 release of a four song EP, "Evacuation Route", CATEGORY FIVE began building a good following around the Southeastern music scene. After playing local bars, clubs and festivals throughout 2004, the band spent the end of the year in the studio putting the finishing touches on "Landfall" - a full-length, all-original CD that was released in April 2005.
In June 2005 The Greenville News profiled CATEGORY FIVE in their Upstate Weekend "Xtreme Bands" forum. The full page article featured a band interview and picture. In August 2005 CATEGORY FIVE was the number ONE of the TOP 20 downloaded artists on Greenville Online.com , with "Better Than Momma" remaining in the top ten all month. While their internet following continues to grow a full gig schedule of Southeastern shows is planned for the rest of the year as the word spreads about this dynamic and hardworking live act.
