| Born in the belly of Babylon, Chiazm is punked out fusion rock, sometimes called ethno-core for its travels over a vast geography of musical forms. As a methaphor for the intersection of perceptual information, Chiazm takes the hard rock trio and runs the gamut from funk to jazz to punk, reggae and blues and hard progressive rock. Chiazm features Andre Elias on vocals and guitar, Jon Erickson on bass, and Adam Campbell-Strauss on drums. Chiazm pushes the envelope with psychedelic guitars and effects, world percussion, heavy funky bass and a mutant drummer from outer-space. Chiazm’s aggressive politics and sense of humor ring through sparing no one. Fiercely independent with its own production and all original material Chiazm can be contacted for shows throughout California and the West Coast.
Andre Elias is the singer-songwriter, guitarist, engineer and producer at the helm of a new arts label called ChiAxis productions. He has been actively performing in the San Diego music scene doing solo performances, singing, playing guitar, bass, percussion and teaching music. aelias@planet-save.com Dre adds his tabla, dumbek, guitar and vocal skills to the Chiazm adding elements of metal, psychedelia, flamenco, middle eastern dance, and hindustani music to the mix, as well as electronica, experimental and political satire. Chiazm first formed at Pomona College. Dre and Jon met in '99 jammed, blizzed up the crizzle and then fizzled up the drizzle nwamean. Jon is a songwriter, bass player and guitarist who has composed his own solo work and is currently teaching Math at an Animo Charter School and living out in LA. Blangin! Dre and Jon sometime play classical and flamenco guitar and Dre has begun to accompany on percussion for Jon's Bass Solo's.
Then Dre met Adam in an Afro-Cuban drumming class taught by Francsico Aguabella in '01. He was like, "you play the rock music?" And he was like "yeah, kit for like 10 years and drums like 5" then he was like "Who is the modern drummer you most respect and attempt to emulate?" and he says "Danny Carey" and he says "come with me." On the way from the dining hall they'd rock the fuck out in cave under Walker. Bringin it down with that sonic boom sorta quality they thought they couild take on the world. Alas their paths have been spread out like a triangle from Santa Monica to Claremont to San Diego.
The wisdom of time apart teaching and exploring other side projects has helped Chiazm whip up a whole slew of new songs for their 2nd album, Ablaze. Dre's homie from Berkeley, Luke Lynch aka DJLL7 was featured on Chiazm's first 2003 release called Zygote on an awesome track called Destruct-O-tron. He will soon be playing shows with Chiazm as well as other upcoming artists like Tribe Agape, and the Meehoos.
