The Story So Far:
Born in Toronto, Canada on March 24th 1982, this singer/songwriter began his musical adventure at Courtice Secondary School, while living with his loving and supportive family in a small town outside of Oshawa called Mitchells Corners. His Grandfather gave him his first guitar. Assured by the instant love that Chris displayed for the instrument he knew he had made the right decision. He began playing in school organized bands before collaborating talents with long time school buddy Dave Benham. The two pals would later form a roots-rock band South River with casual coffee acquaintance and drummer, Chris Dove. South River played countless shows at bars, clubs and pubs all over the GTA and Durham Region. In the fall of 2003, South River disbanded and a more concentrated project began, The Watercolour Mission. A combination of two good friends, Chris Gauthier's folksy/country feel and the rock/acoustic sounds of Chris Dove. After recording and playing many shows the two recruited long time friend Paul Rossiter on drums and college buddy Jeff Radich for bass. This band, Big North Star, was a learning curve for Chris as he was living in an 1800s farm house with some friends and working full time at Long & McQuade Musical Instruments. Big North Star rehearsed for one year and played some memorable shows including; Stinger Stock in Algonquin Park ON and with April Wine and Honeymoon Suite. But it was time for Chris to come back to what he needed to do. Play solo/acoustic music. Chris was then launched into a whole new level of passionate state of mind with his music, writing and recording a very original form of folk rock. His acoustic, raw sound adds thoroughly to the heart-wrenching melodies and chord structures of his truly Canadian folk rock tunes. Some of Chris influences include; Blue Rodeo, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Ryan Adams, Steve Earle and Dashboard Confessional. Chris is currently absorbing many creative and effective ways to drive himself into the heart of the Canadian music industry as a solo recording artist with the hands on help of his new record label Eternal Rest Records. With the release of his latest solo record The Story So Far 2002-06, he has managed to gain a loyal fan base and is creating a buzz in the Durham Region. "Im driven into writing my songs by the passion that I have with music, life and love. I must perform. Its a part of me that I cannot contain. I love people, and getting the chance to show people what I do. I am a proud Canadian artist beginning my career as a singer/songwriter. I will forever write my songs, and sing them to everyone who will listen."
