Christine Evans is the latest young singer/songwriter to emerge from a Vancouver Island music scene that has given the world Nelly Furtado and Diana Krall. Still only 14 years old, Christine launched her career with a pair of recordings that promise greatness.
Produced and engineered by Tom Hall of Seattle's Earworks Audio, ‘Take Me Home’ and ‘Time For Me’ demonstrate Christine's dramatic, dynamic vocals on a pair of polished, well-crafted, original songs and will be featured singles from her forthcoming album set for release on November 2nd, 2004. Her melodic songs and introspective lyrics defy her young age with maturity and sophistication.
Like most of her favorite musicians, (Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and The Beatles), Christine writes and arranges all her own songs. She has been singing and writing songs since she was seven. Peter Yarrow, from the fabled folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, calls Christine "a very gifted singer/songwriter with an expressive, beautiful voice, a totally genuine life perspective and a warm gracious personality.” Yarrow introduced the young Victoria musician to the famous New York-based singing coach Bill Riley (who works with Metropolitan Opera Singers as well as performers such as Celine Dion, Liza Minnelli and many other greats) and he shared in Yarrow’s enthusiasm.
‘Take Me Home’ was chosen as the winner for ‘Song of the Year’ at the 3rd Annual Island Music Awards. It’s rising in the charts after a debut at #42 and is currently being played on multiple radio stations in Canada. The video for Take Me Home was included into rotation on MuchMusic on June 10th of this year. It was also selected for play on Much More Music and YTV’s Hitlist.
With the momentum building, Christine is a young performer on the rise. Already she has performed numerous live shows in Western Canada and is no stranger to the stage. Performance highlights include the Island Music Awards show, the Victoria Folk Festival, and an upcoming appearance on CTV’s nationally broadcast Canada AM. |
