Camp Kill Yourself (CKY) consists of Deron Miller (guitar, vocals), Chad Ginsburg (guitar), Jess Margera (drums), and Vern Zaborowski (bass). The group is from West Chester, Pennsylvania. CKY began in 1994 when Miller and Margera left the band Foreign Objects. The two met Ginsburg while recording in a Philadelphia studio, and convinced him to join the band. Miller thought of the name because he felt Camp Kill Yourself would be a perfect name for a horror movie. CKY ‘s career began when Margera’s brother, professional skate boarder Bam, was spotlighted on the video produced by Toy Machine entitled Jumping Off A Building. CKY’s song, “Genesis12a,” was played throughout the video. In 1999 the video Landspeed was released. Once again, CKY was featured on the sound track. By this time, the group had become an overnight sensation with skateboarding fans. Fan sites were becoming prominent on the Internet. In 2000, Bam was approached by MTV to be on their soon-to-be famous show, Jackass. The show featured CKY’s song “96 Quite Better Things (The Shopping Cart Song)” on every episode. In April 2001, CKY caught the attention of Def Jam/Island Records and signed a recording contract. Later that year they released the album Camp Kill Yourself: Volumes 1 & 2.
