| Hailing from the small town of South Mountain Ontario, Canada, Cory Mervin Coons has been writing, recording and playing music for over 15 years. From the time he was just a young boy growing up right next to his grandparents farm and listening to his mother's old lp's and 45's, Cory has always been passionate about music. His influences range from early rock n' roll, folk, and popular artists like The Beach Boys, Elvis, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, and in later years John Mellencamp, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, and Styx.
Throughout the late 80's in his high school days, Cory played in many local rock bands. While in 1998, he also spent some time touring in Canada and the southern United States, finding some moderate success with the Retro touring act "U.S". He has also opened for the likes of such artists as "April Wine" and "David Wilcox".
Then in 1999, Cory recorded his first full length cd with the band "Tycoons" , and has enjoyed performing live for audiences all across Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and New York State.
Cory's many accomplishments also include having his musical interlude "Round' The World" used as a background soundtrack song for world leading Canadian technology company "Ross Video", on a promotional video for their new "Synergy" and "Multi- Definition" digital production switchers for 2004/2005 at the "NAB 04" Electronic Media Show held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
So now the time has come to get back to the roots that started it all for Cory, a new cd, and a new solo band.
With the release of "From The Ground Up", Cory Mervin Coons puts forth a strong collection of songs reflecting his past, present, and the future!
His first single release to Canadian radio titled "Crumbs" is currently being aired on several stations including College and University stations in Ontario, as well as several internet radio stations throughout the "Live 365" network.
What sets Cory apart from other artists is a down to earth honesty and realness about his music that touches home. With hard-hitting soulful melodies, and strong catchy rhythms, Cory Mervin Coons is surely an up and coming artist to watch for!
