Love Michelle Harrison, or Courtney Love, was born July 9, 1964 in San Francisco, California. Courtney Love began her career as a professional musician with a short-term gig as the lead singer of 'Faith No More' in the early 80's. Courtney co- founded a 'riot grrl' band in her 'hometown', Minneapolis, Minnestota. The band was named 'Babes in Toyland', she co- found it with Kat Bjelland. Kat and Courtney fought badly, so Courtney was fired. In 1991 Courtney started her own band called 'Hole'. Their first album got little attention from the press, but luckily Hole got recognized a lot more when Courtney married guitarist and lead singer from 'Nirvana', She also got a lot of publicity after his death, just not neccesarily always that good.
Courtney was also a model. Earlier in her career, she modeled the 'kinderwhore' fashion, which she was said to have taken from Kat or the other-way-around. Courtney herself said the look was inspired by Christina Amphlett of 80's rock band, 'The Divinyls'. Courtney Love's style has since changed, and she has modelled for more sophisticated designer labels.
Courtney had a more early success as an actress, she appeared as Nancy Spungen's best friend Nancy Spungen in 'Sid andNancy' in 1986, and in 'Straight to Hell' in 1987.
Okay, As most of us already know Courtney Love has had a decent amount of bad press, and celebrities already have that weird power of MAKING people listen to them but sometimes she says or does things that people don't approve of or find insulting, and not to mention, all the time spent in court in the past year. In 2000, she publicly stated her admiration for Napster which, was being accused of promoting illegal file-sharing. She became popular for her criticism of record companies' unfair contracts and mistreatment of artists.
In 2003, Courtney pleaded not guilty to felony drug charges related to her possession of painkillers. In February of 2004, an arrest warrant was issued for Courtney after she failed to appear at a preliminary hearing, the warrant was afterwards cancelled when she appeared in court on February 18. She released her first solo effort 'America's Sweetheart' eight days before on February 10. Early morning on March 19, 2004 Courtney was arrested in New York City for throwing a microphone stand and hitting a man on the head during a show. Earlier in the night, she was on 'The Late Show' with David Letterman and flashed him six times. On July 9, 2004, her 40th birthday, she missed a scheduled court date (for attempting a break-in at her boyfriend's house.) Her attorney later said she missed the appearance because of medical problems. Later in the month she showed up in court and was sentenced to an 18-month probation and rehabilitation program for her drug problem. In August of 2004 Courtney when she allowed a bill for a message board, tied into her website to go unpaid. Courtney agreed to pay (and had been paying) the bill though the board was registered to the head of her fanclub. A lawsuit is still waiting.
While living in Japan Courtney took an intrest in manga, she co-created a series called 'Princess Ai'. Princess Ai is based on the character design of Ai Yazawa (manga author). 'Princess Ai: Volume I' was released in English by TokyoPop on July 6, 2004.
Despite all of her troubles, regardless of what they are, Courtney Love is an amazing musician. If you haven't already, you should really consider getting her first solo album 'America's Sweetheart'. It's available both edited and unedited. :P

F**ked Up Album Review
I just read the All Music Review take on the "American Sweetheart" album. What a dick!!! All the dude does is bad mouth Courtney at every turn. So typical.
A whole lot of the music industry is run by men who are scared of hard ass, outspokent, strong women artists. They expect all women to be like their "mummy" and can't handle an independant women, so they try to discredit them all the time.
Anyway, I wrote a review of the album that is WAY more positive of the album, as it should be. "American Sweetheart" is a GREAT album!!

Yeah, Courtney will keep at it. She seems to hit it hot and heavy for a while, then back off for a while.
She seems to have a lot of critics in the music world. The music press is always ragging on her!!
There should have been several more video releases from "American Sweetheart". THere are a bunch of great songs on it that would have made GREAT videos.
I don't think the record company pushed the cd strong enough. | GrayBeard | | | |
