Cypress hill is one of hip hop's most leading groups , but cypress hill are different compared to pe, bone thugz,run dmc ,wu tang clan. What makes them unique is the collabaration with hardcore rap , gangsta rap and rock/metal.
The story started in 1988 when cuban mc sen dog real name senen reyes , teamed up with dj muggs real name laurance muggaured.Senen previously was working with his younger brother mellow man ace during the 80's.They then teamed up with b-real real name louis freese ,who was a latin american from LA.The three then set a deal with colombia records/ruff house , and there career started.They hit the scene with a song called 'the phunkey feel one' , they gave there name.But it wasnt until they hit the scene with the college hit 'how i could just kill a man' which gave them a no 1 hit .There debut album cypress hill 1, which gave the hill all the credit they needed. The album contained other great songs pigs, hole in the head, stoned is the way.The following year the hill worked with house of pain ,who with the help of muggs made there debut album a smash hit.Cypress hill were getting sucsess alongside the likes of bone thugz n harmony and other upcomming groups.In 1993 the hill released a master hit 'insane in the brain' which put them back at the top, and released there 2nd album black sunday.The album was dope , you felt high just listening to it.The album included songs dedicated to weed , in which cypress hill made a few songs about.The other classic hits being 'i wanna get high' 'hits from the bong' and i aint going out like that.Dj muggs then created his own label soul assains, who had the likes of h.o.p.In 1995 cypress released temple of boom , which was a very dark album.Its heavy base and spooky tunes , bought out gloomy hits like illusions and make a move.They also worked with the fugees on boom bidi bye bye ,the album went to sale on 2x platinium and gold like the previous two.They were laso nominated for a grammy for throw your set in the air.But in 1996 sen dogg left the group , that year they brought out unreleased and revamped.The album had unreleased songs like intellectual dons and remixes of previous songs.Cypress hill did'nt return until 1998 ,but with a new member percotionist eric bobo.Sen dogg however also returned to the group after his 2 year absense.The group dropped there 4th lp ,cypress hill 4 which did'nt sale more than any of the other hill albums.Cypress stated that they did'nt have that much support on this album .They released singels dr green thumb ,tequila sunrise ,and checkmate . Cypress hill started to get recognition from rock and metal fans.In 1999 they released a spanish version of all there hits los grande exitos.Then work was being done, in which cypress would regain there spot.They released there double album skull and bones.One disk was 11 tracks of hip hop/hardcore rap, and the second being rock and metal.They released two singles rock superstar and rap superstar , rock superstar for rock fans and rap superstar for hip hop fans.The album was a great come back , and the hill got back there respect .The 4 membered clique then released , cant get the best of me ,and highlife.The year was a sucsess.The hill were now working with limp bizkit , korn and eminem .The same year they released a box set of three cd's , wich was named straight out of cypress.The cd's were work from sens band sx 10 ,mellow man ace and v and legacy.In the year 2000 cypress recorded there live album in san fran sissco at the filmore.The concert done well and cypress showed no weakness .Breal was also working with everlast , breal was also trying to settle the dispute between everlast and eminem.In 2001 the hill released another lp , stoned raiders.The first single being a collabaration with rap and rock called trouble.Then the next single was lowrider.Cypress showed the world that they were still strong .
With breals squekiesh but exellent voice and sens raw , have cypress the best response group since run dmc.Cypress hill are always experimenting with music , and have been one of the most successful groups of the 90's.I HOPE TO SEE MORE CYPRESS HILL IN THE FUTURE.PEACE.
