Several venues have experienced the funk/jazz sounds of the four person group; Da Phatfunk Clique. In September of 1998, violinist Darrell Looney began collaborating with bassist Brian Ellis on what would become the group’s 1999 release – Pandemic Love. The sound is unique as the violin is the lead instrument. Da Phatfunk Clique was formed as a band by January of 2000, utilizing local talent in support of the album release. DPC has developed into a funk/jazz concept creating mood-elevating grooves with a violin lead. The resulting vibe has been described as an amalgamation of jazz from Mahavishnu Orchestra and funk ambience of George Clinton's P-Funk All Stars. True to form, these are among the group's influences as are artists such as George Duke, Meshell NDegeOcello, Herbie Hancock and Noel Pointer.

"Few things are as attractive as the violin played with a jazz mindset."
