Several venues have experienced the funk/jazz sounds of the four person group; Da Phatfunk Clique. In September of 1998, violinist Darrell Looney began collaborating with bassist Brian Ellis on what would become the group’s 1999 release – Pandemic Love. The sound is unique as the violin is the lead instrument. Da Phatfunk Clique was formed as a band by January of 2000, utilizing local talent in support of the album release. Out of this effort came development of their unique sound and the current line up - Janet Rogers (Keyboards), Brian Ellis (Bass), Micheal Thomas (Drums) and Darrell Looney (Violin) - has been performing and writing music together since 2003. The resulting vibe, both jazzy and funky, has been described as an amalgamation of jazz from Mahavishnu Orchestra and funk ambience of George Clinton's P-Funk. True to form, these are among the group's influences as are artists such as Meshell NDegeOcello, Herbie Hancock, George Duke and Noel Pointer.

"Few things are as attractive as the violin played with a jazz mindset."
