David Christian Militello was born on February 4, 1999 in Austell, Georgia, and although he's only eight years old, David has a lot to sing about. His fight in life started significantly early. He has endured many obstacles at such a young age.
When David was still not speaking by the age of 2-1/2, his pediatrician suggested a specialist test him. After being tested, David was placed in a special needs program in the public school system at the age of three. Within weeks of attending the program, David began to speak, though not all of it made sense. He made all sorts of sounds, but lacked the social skills necessary to be placed in a "normal" setting. In spite of this, David could sing. He sang everywhere he went and people would stop and listen to him.
While still three, David began to phonetically pronounce words, and a short time later, he began to read. Over time, he continued to progress academically, but not communally. He consistently showed signs of autistic behavior.
At age of four, David had memorized Scripture, the capital of every state, the names of every planet, continent, dinosaur, etc. While still four, David had a part in an Easter play at his family's church. He memorized his lines without a problem, but he cried because he didn't want to be a part of the play. Nevertheless, when it was time for David to speak, he belted out his lines as if it was the most natural thing in the world for him to be in front of an audience. He's been singing and speaking in front of audiences ever since.
David recently performed the National Anthem at the Atlanta Hawks v. Washington Wizards game on November 11, 2007. The organization was so impressed with David's audition, they put David on the home page of the team's website.
In kindergarten, David was awarded a certificate for being the most creative. His teachers were especially impressed with the stories David created. Now one of his stories is about to go to print and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go to research for a cure for Autism.
