| When you hear Dead End Kids curious eclectic mixture of punk rock's
past, present, and maybe even pieces of it's future; one word comes to mind to
describe them-authentic. This is no accident. For hearing them is an
experiment in what can be done with established boundaries of punk.
From the smooth lines and frantic rhythms of Mr.Spat on bass and the
unrelenting stampede of Jeremy Pleasure controlling the drums;from the
confused and tormented howl and snipe of Tim Paranoid's vocals to the
ferocious assault of the guitar playing of Generic. The best advice is to
take cover. Here is a band that has legend written all over them. Each one
of them a burning presence but together they are a rock and roll supernova.
Generic-the guitar player of a thousand musical faces with every Chuck
Berry riff as ballast. His playing attacks your ears with melody and mayhem
like his hands are lit matches and the guitar is a six string tinderbox
about to become his smoldering victim. Generic is the continual driving
force of the band. He is the blitzkrieg beating heart of Dead End Kids.
Jeremy Pleasure is the band's backbone.
Without him; they would collapse and be lost. He cracks like gunfire and
sizzles and singes as he drives the whole company into the edge of oblivion.
Mr. Spat commands the stage like an Irish Al Pacino while cajoling
mellifluous full lines of rhythm from only four strings. His playing pushes
the band out into new musical territories. He is the soul of the band, the
spiritual center of a hurricane. Tim Paranoid is the band's flesh and
blood. Energy and passion in every pore. As you watch him you see the
glorious history of rock and roll in one man. He is
villain,icon,musician,star,emotion's victim and fool.
The angry young man tempered by time and tempted by rock and roll's undying
promise.
Dead End Kids have lent their time and energy to many worthwhile causes
and community events. They have played for the construction of a new
library,Little League Opening Day,the restoration of a historic band shell,
and the American Cancer Society. They've even played a middle school
carnival. THey are local heroes.
They have shared the stage with legends like the Undead, featuring
ex-Misfit Bobby Steele,The Graves,featuring ex-Misfit Michael Graves,The
Damned,The Vibrators,FEAR,Blanks 77,Against All Authority,and Sloppy
Seconds.
They are reoccurring yearly favorites in Atlanta and have played
hallowed punk institutions; the Continental and CBGB.
Dead End Kids are the greatest punk rock band you've never heard...yet.
