DeBarge is the family quintet comprised of Eldra (El), Bobby, Randy, Mark, and sister Bunny. The group came from Grand Rapids, Michigan. DeBarge signed with the legendary Motown Records with the help of older brothers Bobby and Tommy (the two were with the Motown group, Switch) in 1979. In 1981, they released "The DeBarges", which gave no indication of their future success.
"All This Love" was released in 1982 and was certified gold. The album featured the Top 20 hits "I Like It", "Time Will Reveal", and the title track.
Their 1983 effort "In A Special Way" was another gold album, and featured
"Love Me In A Special Way". 1984 saw the group go on tour with Luther Vandross.
In 1985, DeBarge released their biggest album, "Rhythm of the Night",
which featured "Who's Holding Donna Now" (No.6 pop,No.2 R&B), the title track (No.3 pop,No.1 R&B), and "You Wear
It Well" (No.7 R&B).
In 1986, Motown released a DeBarge greatest hits album. The year also saw El leave the group to pursue a solo career. He enjoyed minor success, but never at the level expected. The group released an non-El album in 1987 with "Back On Track", and broke up two years later.
