| Science and Sanity is the culmination of 4 years of songwriting and performing by The Decoration, formerly known as Pinq. While not a "concept album" by any means, the theme, lyrical content, and title of the album all refer to a semi-obscure, yet massive text first published in 1958 - the book and this album share the same name. The Author, Alfred Korzybski, a Polish immigrant and the founder of the theory of "General Semantics" was a mathematician/philosopher/psychologist renaissance man in the truest form. General Semantics explored "reactions of the whole human organism in its environment to some event" and the very fundamental relationships between human beings to each other and their environment. Each track on Science and Sanity explores similar themes, and some even pull direct ideas from Korzybski himself. "Territory is the Map" (track 1) is a reverse play on one of Korzybski's most famous phrases: "The Map is Not the Territory". His concept unearths the inability of humans to accurately depict any reality or environment truly accurately. |
