Fishing, food, and girls inspired Vocalist/guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo and drummer Bill Stevenson to start the power-pop group, the Descendents. A major influence of the trio was the Buzzcocks. In 1979, the Descendents issued the single, RIDE THE WILD. The band became involved with other things and disappeared.
The Descendents came back to the music scene in 1981 with vocalist Milo Auckerman. Frank Navetta continued as guitarist. Milo brought a dose of humor and teen angst to the table giving the Descendents a new sound. The band toured that year relentlessly and released the 1981 e.p. FAT. In 1982 the band released their debut full length, MILO GOES TO COLLEGE on SST Records. After it's release Auckerman indeed went on to study biochemistry. The band took a hiatus, again. Stevenson did a short stint with Black Flag during this time.
In 1985 Ray Cooper replaced Navetta and the Descendents re-surfaced with I DON'T WANT TO GROW UP. This album was a more mellow approach to their edgy pop-punk sound, including more serious songs about girls and depression. After the album was released, ex-Anti bassist Doug Carrion took over for Lombardo and in 1986 the Descendents released, ENJOY!. In 1987 they released ALL. After the release, the band split a third time. During this split, Stevenson founded ALL. The Descendants wouldn't reunite again until 1996. In between '87 and '96, the Descendents released two live performances, LIVEAGE! and HALLRAKER. In 1996 Milo Auckerman, after finishing college, re-united with Stevenson and All bassist Karl Alvarez. The trio also added guitarist Stephen Egerton. The new Descendents released a newly recorded album entitled, EVERYTHING SUCKS and pulled a lengthy tour.
