Dido, from the beginning, was always a talented child. By the time she was six years old, she had been admitted into the exclusive Guildhall School of Music in London, and it was there she was recognized for the child prodigy she was. When she reached the young age of ten, she had mastered, not learned, mastered, the piano, the recorder, and the violin. When she was finished with her schooling, she began touring with the British Classical Ensemble, but after she decided to be finished with that, she accepted a job as a publisher. It was at that time that she began to sing for various London groups. Her DJ brother, Rollo, was also a producer, and repeatedly warned his younger sister that she should not have set her heart on a musical career, but she ignored him and kept on in pursuit of her dreams. After much argument, cajoling, and promises, Rollo allowed his little sister to join his fledgling band, Faithless. Dido immediately began touring with the new group, and in 1995 their debut album, Reverence, sold over 5 million copies. needless to say, the entire group was thrilled. But when the group was not touring, using her main influence Ella Fitzgerald to help along her style, Dido began to record her own music. When executives hear her voice on the single "My Lover's Gone," she jumped at the invitation they extended her to meet with them at the prestigious London hotel, Dorchester Hotel. Once there, she met Clive Davis, and was immediately signed with their company. In 1999, her debut album, No Angel, was released, and featered acoustic pop ingeniously mingled with electronics. The album was produced by Dido herself, her brother, Rollo, Rich Nowels, and also Youth. Unfortunately, it didn't go as well as hoped. But, in 2000, Dido recieved her big break. Popular rapper Eminem used her single "Thank You' in his wonderfully successful track "Stan." The song was a hit, and therefor prompted people to listen to her original song, this rocketing Dido to success and popularity. By 2001, her song had reached the Top 5 songs, and was also used in the film Sliding doors, starring Gweneth Paltrow. Aside from her first album, No Angel, featuring the single "Thank You," Dido has also come out with another album, Life for Rent, featuring hte single "White Flag." Both albums are extremely enjoyable, and provide an excellent listen. The video for "White Flag" was also very good, and I love the song!
