Thrash metal rock music band, formed in 1987 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada by guitarist/vocalist/writer Hart Bachmier under the original name Warthorn. Moved north to Edmonton in 1988, changed name to Disciples Of Power, recorded demo tape 'Cthulu'. Also in 1988, they recorded song 'Aggressor' for local band album compilation 'Writing in Stone' (Rubber Records, vinyl only, never re-released). This song was later re-recorded as 'Vindicator' in 1992.
By 1989, the band lineup was Hart Bachmier: guitar/vocals, Dean Relf: drums, Maurice Williams: guitar, Chris Chapman: bass.
First album 'Power Trap' recorded in Ottawa at Ambience Recorders, released on vinyl and tape by Toronto label Fringe Records, who remixed it. This album was later re-pressed on CD under its original mix as intended by the band ('brutal remix'). Artwork on first two was by Steve Chandler. This album was produced by DOP.
By 1992, DOP releases second album 'Ominous Prophecy' on Fringe Records. Lineup is Hart, Dean, Wes Sontag: guitar, Colin Post: bass. Album is produced by Ron Chenier (Fist) and DOP in Edmonton.
By 1993, third album 'Invincible Enemy' is released independently, since label Fringe is having financial problems and soon goes bankrupt. By this time the band had toured across Canada and played with bands like Sacrifice, Razor, Kreator, Infernal Majesty. They released 2 videos: 'Crisis' and 'Nature's Fury' which both received much airplay on Canada's MuchMusic station and still do today.
By 1996, the fourth album 'Mechanikill' is released independently. The band continues to tour across Canada and garners attention in the US and overseas. Artwork for this album and 'Invincible Enemy' is done by Shane 'Drifter' Hawco, singer of Calgary death metal band Thorazine, who would also briefly fill-in as vocalist around 1998 when Hart decides to give his vocal chords a rest and try something different. Also in 1998, Shane Handford remixes the song 'Mechanikill' for a local metal compilation called 'Mind Compression'.
By 2001, new bassist Andy Smith is added and writing for a new album begins. Recording is done at guitarist Wes Sontag's own studio WesStudios. Production is done by Wes Sontag, Hart Bachmier, and Ron Chenier (Ronch Music). The new album 'In Dust We Trust' is released by 2003 with artwork by drummer Dean Relf and local DJ/artist Tsanger Banger.
Also around this time, a new side project DEAD MANS TRAIN is formed by Hart and drummer Dean Relf. This band is more along the hard rock vein than death metal. Pre-production and writing is done at WesStudios but this first batch of recordings is scrapped and a new batch is redone later. The new self-titled album is completed by 2004 and made available at www.PureTracks.com
In 2005, Wes Sontag forms Section 8 with a guitarist from a Judas Priest cover band. They release an album with Shane Hawco on vocals but still seek a permanent vocalist. Drummer Dean Relf forms War March with ex-Sacramentary Abolishment member Paulus (Rites Of Thy Digringolade). In 2004, Hart also joins Black Sabbath/Ozzy cover band Wicked World. By 2006, the band DOP is planning a compilation album and releasing all albums on Apple's iTunes.
DOP paved the way for Canadian thrash and helped put Alberta on the map! They've toured across the country and played with everyone from Kreator to Kataklysm! They are described as 'Technical Death Metal'. They rocked long before metal and hardcore and mallpunk got MTV trendy. No lame rap, keyboards, weak female vocals, weak goth operettos, sensitive acoustic strings, cliche Satanic lyrics or other stuff like that here - just well played thrash metal that puts most other Much Mucous metal acts to shame. The band seeks a new distribution deal for their albums, so if you are interested- email em or call!
