Diskreetse Mango Trio is a band that performs folk music, mainly runo-songs, in the key of rock. Despite of their name (Trio) they actually have altogether nine members. This crowded band from Tallinn, Estonia have been active since 2003. They have been aiming to blend modern culture (the different forms of pop and rock music) into folk music and vice versa. The music press and the audience have mainly described the music made by Diskreetse Mango Trio as fresh, energetic, joyful and very catchy.
On November 27, 2006 Diskreetse Mango Trio released their debut-album “Prigadi-Pragadi” under the biggest Estonian record label, hyper.records. The album got very positive reviews by the Estonian music press. “Prigadi-pragadi” is currently nominated for the Estonian Music Award (Estonian Grammy) in the category of the Best Folk/Ethno Album.
The band’s fresh approach to folk music has taken runo-songs to the places where they have never figured before. The band’s radio singles “Hobusemäng” and “Must naine” were followed by great success, the songs have gotten their fair share of air-play on both national and local radio stations. Their singles also entered the Raadio 2 music chart “R2 Top 20” and stayed in the chart for over 20 weeks.
To date Diskreetse Mango Trio have performed near fifty concerts and their concert list includes numerous prestigious folk and rock music festivals (e.g. Viljandi Folk, MAAjaILM, Regiöö, Summerstop).
The band’s performances have also been broadcasted in numerous shows on national television channels as ETV and TV3. They also presented their single “Must Naine” with an hour long live on-air concert on Raadio 2 in a popular radio show “R2 Live”. In fall, 2006 Diskreetse Mango Trio, with their hit single “Hobusemäng”, participated in Baltic New Music Chart broadcasted by Latvian and Lithuanian radio and television channels.
