Biography

Will and Jeff were born in Philadelphia PA. Will in 1968 and Jeff in 1965.
They grew up in the streets in the city of brotherly love.
Dj Jazzy Jeff was one of the best dj`s in the world in the eighties.
Wills` rapping skills was also spectacular in the beginning.
(Just listen to him in the song "He`s the dj, I`m the rapper, the title song in the album with the same title)
Jeff invented a scratch tecnique called "chirp" that you can hear on Will Smiths
"Gettin jiggy wit it" and he was also the first to introduce the "transform" scratch on a record. There are many who means that he invented this scratch also though. Jeff has now "retired" in Philadelphia, his hometown where he works as a producer/Dj in his own studio "A touch of jazz" He`s currently working on his own soloalbum. But he has featured on the new albums by "The Roots" and "Slum village" and others.
The solo album will have more of an underground sound. Not the same style that Will is doing now.

Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh prince started playing toghetter in 1984
They met at a party where Jazzy Jeff was playing and they hooked up.
Will started rapping at the age of twelve so they had both some experience.
They started out playing on private partys. Jeff in charge of the beats and cuts while Will was rapping on top.
They released their first single "Girls ain`t nothing but trouble" in 1986 and the album "Rock the house" in 1987.
Since then they have released these albums:
"He`s the dj, I`m the rapper" in 1988,
"And in this corner...." in 1989,
"Homebase" in 1991,
"Code red" in 1993,
"Greatest hits" in 1998 and another
greatest hits album called "Before the Willennium" in 2000.
They were also the warm-up group for Run-DMC in the late eighties.

Their music style is strictly Hip hop with a comic twist. Alot of their songs are stories about everyday things like girls, parents and those kinds of things. Some are just almost strictly freestyle songs with Will showing his rapping skills and bragging about his dj, while others are just scratching productions were Jeff get busy on the wheels.

Their influences are old school artists like "Grandmaster Flash and the furios five", "Grandmaster Caz", "Run- DMC" and others.

Dj Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Princes` best album is without a doubt "He`s the dj, I`m the rapper. Thats just a classic. A musical masterpiece of real old school Hip hop.

Had to be an un-biased kid to get it I was like 14 or soemthing and I still bought their stuff, I liked Ice T's gangster shiz too, but was still open-minded enought to not close up on any style of Hip-Hop even when it got booty(the first time) and the 2 Live Crew was more funny than absolutely repulsive:) these pre-teen gangster kids are hella bent dog the radio and the politics got them all twisted. I remember when one had to struggle to find Hip-Hop at all, now it's really hard to find real hip-Hop with so many corporately molded Moa_FkaZ blinded and perverted talking bout' make it clap and (the clap was a disease in the 1960's)also "back that Azz Up". I guess we're really done now, I'm not old but damn I miss the Hip-Hop before Miami elctro-club booty, even though there is really good stuff out there if you look, like MURZ, Kanye West,2MEX, The Limbz, Dark Leaf,Shapeshifters,DJ Quick, Aftermath and more . Now before Bel-Air, DJ Jazzy put it down like a motha... for good and for the philly-hood. The Fresh Prince played his card right - forget what anyone says :)	xtek
