In love with the art form of hip-hop D.P. Da Phranchise stands at the easel and slowly paints a picture with his microphone. Born Darryel Porter, 22, from Chicago, IL., D.P. started his venture into making a name for himself at the age of 16. Before making a statement and demanding entry into the industry as a solo artist, he first was a member of the group Z-Gang and Family I-57. Being fortunate enough to have great mentors like Lupe Fiasco and Bishop G, eventually brought great compliments from some of his fellow hometown MC's such as Common Sense, GLC, and Kanye’ West.
Releasing mixtapes since 2004, “The Warm Up” proved his edge comes from his versatility and persistence of being able to make tracks for the hood, the suburbs, the clubs, as well as for the ladies. D.P.’s genuine passion for what he does enhances his creativity leaving him with the ability to think outside the box. Rather young but definitely before his time, D.P. makes his own way through the game and clearly states just that in his hit "Let Me In". With his cockiness, clever punch lines, outlook on life and outstanding way with words, D.P. is for sure a crowd pleasure and an overall dope entertainer.
With his musical influences from Tupac Shakur and Lupe Fiasco, D.P.'s content isn't short on authenticity or imagery. Once quoted from an anonymous source "If life flows every time you speak, why not birth the world?" how accurate. This young man has the right to share his gift with the world. In an era where most say Hip Hop is dead, artist today struggle with not being placed in the category of "rap". D.P. breaks that barrier thanks to his realization of what Hip Hop is, which his work reflects.
Receiving heavy rotation from DJ Pharris and Boolumaster led D.P. to doing shows with some of the major leaguers like T.I., Young Jeezy, Lil' Wayne and Shawnna. Thus, developing an extensive resume and providing exposure and experience for artistic development.
“I put my heart in my songs, so when I die, I know my art will live on…” ~D.P. Da Phranchise
