Dylan Heming Trio
"This group really lets me dig in and explore the tradition of the piano trio and play around with its inherent flexibilty and open spaces. Its quite a prove instrumentation and we tend to think of it in very much a chamber music kind of way.
"As far as the writing goes, I can't really say for sure where the inspiration comes from - certainly the icons: Bill Evans, Jarrett, Lennie Tristano. But I also like to incorporate some of my own takes on some 19th century composers who have influenced me as well. A mixture, really. Who knows..."
Juno award winning pianist, composer, producer and engineer, Dylan Heming has been active on Toronto's live circuit for the last ten years, working with the countries top names. Although piano is his first instrument, Dylan is also fluent on Hammond B3, The Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, and programming.
Dylan has worked with Holly Cole, Greg Cohen, Gil Goldstein, Marty Ehrlich, Kevin Breit, Aaron Davis, David Piltch, Jake Langley, Kevin Turcotte, Alex Lifeson, Russ Little, The James Brown Band, Lee Oskar, Guido Basso, Chris Mitchell, Adele Armin, Roy Hanes jr, and many others. As well as sharing live shows with Maceo Parker, Joey Defrancesco, Maestro, and K-OS.
Alumni of Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music, Dylan also operates a label called "Sleeping Eddie Music", dedicated to his own recordings, whose work now ranges from jazz to soul music, orchestral works to dark electronics, ambient hip hop tracks to lush ensemble arrangements. "Somehow they all live together under one roof. I guess I was just never that interested in sticking to one genre" says Heming "I feel I have things to say in several different forums, and all at the same time. My ambition with all this music is to hopefully arrive at my own signature at the end".
This diversity has culminated into several distinct projects with repertoire consisting mostly of music written specifically for it. Active at the moment are a piano trio, an octet, soul/funk project called "Planet Earth", "Shakester" - ambient hip hop grooves with post bop melodic elements, and also "Bekon", a studio project focused on dark electronics. Furthermore, Dylan will be presenting a program of orchestral music, featuring "Five quintets for strings", a full scale work called "Concierto oblique for orchestra", as well as some shorter improvised pieces.
Dylan has also scored hundreds of episodes of international and domestic television programming for over twenty networks in five countries, including several years of freelance work for David Vanacore Productions in Burbank CA (Survivor, The Apprentice), and Koskenmaki Music also out of Los Angeles. Dylan has also composed music for several feature length films, commercials, and documentaries.
