In June 1992 Justine Frischmann and Justin Welch began to form what were to become an incredibly influential Brit-pop band. With Blur frontman Damon Albarn (Justine's fiancee) playing Bass Guitar, auditions proceeded, and eventually recruiting friend Annie Holland to string Bass permanently and Donna Matthews as additional guitar and lyrics. Under early name "Vaseline", the band recorded a three track room containing early version of 'Line Up', 'Vaseline' and 'Spastica'. Under the name of 'Elastica' they finally release the incredibly successful 'Line Up'. After a good year, the band went on tour with the likes of Pulp and even supported Blur (With Graham Coxon on the Elastica drums ).
In 1994 the band received an NME award for 'best newcomer band'. To follow this up 'Connection' (the theme tune to candid camera show Trigger Happy TV) entered the charts at 17. They also play at Reading, Brighton and "Stone-Age" festivals, rounding off a nice year.
1995 saw the release of their first album "Elastica", containing hits like '2:1', 'Car Song' and 'Line Up'. They were a great influence on the louder side of Brit-pop, with a rare female trio who really highlighted the moment where British culture shocked and revolutionised the music industry. The rest, is history.
