Where it all began...
Elishah (pronounced Eee-lye-shuh), unlike the prophet from the Old Testament, is a Hebrew term meaning "God is salvation." This is the heartbeat and message of three guys (Jimmy Atkins, Michael Atkins, and Jacob Bigelow) from the Hickory area of North Carolina who want everyone they come into contact with to realize the love of God and salvation of Jesus Christ. Beginning in 1986, Jimmy and Michael Atkins' father, Ken, created a band in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. The band's name was Elishah. After touring all over the eastern coast of the U.S., Elishah was disbanded due to God's separate call in each of the members' lives. About fifteen years later, it was reborn, this time in the foothills of NC, and the name was passed down to Ken's two sons. Later, Jacob Bigelow, a friend and fellow church-member of Jimmy and Michael's, joined up and completed the band, both instrumentally and spiritually. Elishah has been formed and continually seeks ministry opportunities based solely on the call each of the members have on their lives from God. To seek out the face of Christ, as well as His Will, is the goal Elishah strives to attain, while showing others what true love is and where it comes from: Jesus Christ.
