I have over a hundred songs written, for me songwriting comes easy, execution is the tricky part. What’s been most difficult is finding serious musicians who are both reliable and can interpret ideas; though I would prefer to be part of a group effort, that’s why I’ve recorded most of my work alone. Usually I start with a melody, a stanza, chorus, or both; then edit lyrics and themes. Later I’ll figure out the breaks and what goes where. I start out with just a basic hook until my influences take over and it turns into something else. Like having to take a really bad dump “No Humanity” came Shinto. As a combat vet I still have mixed feelings about the lyrics because our boys are still there (not to mention Sunni women and children who might need protection). I wouldn’t intentionally be so specific but like I said the words just kind of came out. What I originally had in mind was a slow synth-metal approach with melodic harmonies, but when I sat down to record this industrial vomit came out and I just went with it.
No Humanity
(lyrics by Eric Vaughn Sachs)
who could say we are free
while societies burn
as technology turns out the whore
it's no use waving a flag
in a world gone mad
full of racism hate greed and war
mothers crying and what for
no humanity no more
alcohol drugs STDs crowded prisons
but no humanity no humanity
meth lab plutonium green house emissions
but no humanity no humanity
go put your God or your country
above human rights
or any life lost in the Storm
but don't think that I give a damn
about breed or brand
or the label on my uniform
young men dying and what for
there's no humanity in war
torture brutality fear terrorism
but no humanity no humanity
genocide hunger disease ethnic cleansing
but no humanity no humanity
importing narcotic toxins
export pornography
call it democracy
smuggle Katyushas for poppy seeds
blow up an embassy
fund the hypocrisy
politics left right and wing nut opinions
but no humanity no humanity
prophesy crosses moon star stuck religion
but no humanity no humanity
wall borders fences more capitalism
but no humanity no humanity
corporate investment and national interest
but no humanity no humanity

My name is Eric Vaughn Sachs descendant of German composer Hans Sachs called the Maestro of Nuremburg. Was, is, a co-founding member of the Phat Turners with Victor Bowman.
I'm a much studied fourty one year old working class singer songwriter. Although I'm well traveled I've had my share of hard knocks; war, depression, divorce, addiction, jail, rehab ect. Music, for better or worse, particularly rock and roll (all genres), has always been my anti-depressant. First as a strictly zealous fan then over the years my life experience afforded me amunition to start making my own statement.
My first profound impressions were classic rock, heavy metal and punk (live music is best). Starting with The Tubes, Iggy, Ramones then Alice, Motorhead, Megadeth and always more Iggy. Yet oddly it was several Grateful Dead shows that really opened up creative paths and braodened my tastes to country, blues, Motown (especially starvin Marvin), soul Funk ect. However, the two most classic; 1 Chuck Berry flicking a bugger at Trump Tower in between licks; 2 Keith battling mother nature with the Stones at Giant Stadium. Later a pre-clean Steve Earl singlehandedly tore up the Bottem Line in New York City. Then back to the West Coast Ice Cube was one of the few rappers I've seen to really pull it off on stage and make it rock. And what a royal beef between Manson and Courtney at the Pond, hats off to both. Way too much inspiring live music to mention.
It's been a rough couple of years but I'm going to make it work. While my style and musicianship are still developing, my strengh in songwriting lies in my influences. On that note, all props go to my all time favorite artist, long live Iggy Pop. |
