My name is Eric Vaughn Sachs descendant of German composer Hans Sachs called the Maestro of Nuremburg. Was a co-founding member of the Phat Turners with Victor Bowman.
I'm a much studied fourty one year old working class singer songwriter. Although I'm well traveled I've had my share of hard knocks; war, depression, divorce, addiction, jail, rehab ect. Music, for better or worse, particularly rock and roll (all genres), has always been my anti-depressant. First as a strictly zealous fan then over the years my life experience afforded me amunition to start making my own statement.
My first profound impressions were classic rock, heavy metal and punk (live music is best). Starting with The Tubes, Iggy, Ramones then Alice, Motorhead, Megadeth and always more Iggy. Yet oddly it was several Grateful Dead shows that really opened up creative paths and braodened my tastes to country, blues, Motown (especially starvin Marvin), soul Funk ect. However, the two most classic; 1 Chuck Berry flicking a bugger at Trump Tower in between licks; 2 Keith battling mother nature with the Stones at Giant Stadium. Later a pre-clean Steve Earl singlehandedly tore up the Bottem Line in New York City. Then back to the West Coast Ice Cube was one of the few rappers I've seen to really pull it off on stage and make it rock. And what a royal beef between Manson and Courtney at the Pond, hats off to both. Way too much inspiring live music to mention.
It's been a rough couple of years but I'm going to make it work. While my style and musicianship are still developing, my strengh in songwriting lies in my influences. On that note, all props go to my all time favorite artist, long live Iggy Pop. |
