I was born and raised in the small outport of Boyd's Cove,Notre Dame Bay,Newfoundland,Canada.I've been a resident of Gander,Newfoundland since 1949,with the exception of living in Happy Valley-Goose Bay,Labrador for ten years.
In 1948 my father quite is job as a Lumber Jack and found employment as a Supply Store Keeper on Gander Airport. In 1949 dad moved his family to Gander. Finally,my father could afford to buy me a guitar from Eaton's catalogue, and after a few months of practice,i found myself struming along with my father's accordion while he was playing for a square dance. It was a dream come true.I was inspired to write and sing country songs from listening to my idol the great and late Hank Williams.
In 1961 i was transferred by my employer to Happy Valley-Goose Bay,Labrador, and thats where i organized my first country group named the' Northern Lights'.Labrador was a great place to be for a country musicians and singers. There was lots of work for country bands in the many night clubs on the American Base and the town of Happy Valley.I held on to my regular job and used my music as a part-time job.
Many thanks for supporting my music and visting this page. |
