| Grab your best producers and your favorite rappers, add Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and a great personality - put it all in a pot and you most likely will end up with somebody like Eric Wilson. This producer/emcee from Cleveland, Ohio is starting to boil in the Cleveland area and is really separating himself from the multitude of hip hop artists in the region.
Eric (Wilson) has been into music since before the tender age of 4 years old. He started out watching his father play the trumpet and watching his uncle play the bass guitar and drums. Naturally, he ended up playing instruments, especially the drums, and has progressed in to one of the most sought-after composers/producers in the Cleveland area. Since jumping head first into the hip hop arena, he has worked with/or performed with notable artists such as UGK, Too Short, Devin The Dude, Keith Murray, Joe Budden, and many others. As a producer, he has worked with Flesh N' Bone, Layzie Bone, Mid-West Mafia, Dungeon Family (Big Rube), Suave Gotti, Dogzilla, Jay-Kool, Strik 9, and countless other Cleveland area talent. He has also released well-received projects in the area and is about to release his debut CD entitled "The Warm Up". This debut is basically a biographical musicology that touches on how difficult it can be to be an aspiring while being surrounded by people that don't really want to see him succeed. It's very insightful to say the least.
Eric Wilson is also working on other upcoming projects, including artists under Scratchpaper Productions (he is CEO of this company), and other independent labels' and artists' projects. Critics compare his sound to many of today's hot producers, but, it's obvious that he has a sound of his own, mainly because he does not sample at all, and he composes and produces everything that his voice is on. Defining his style can be a bit of a challenge, since he incorporates styles from all regions of the U.S. and beyond. His eclecticism is very obvious as the rhythms and melodies mix and mingle to eventually grab all of the attention of any person that understands and feels the power of hard urban beats and well-composed tracks. It is also apparent that his brand of Midwest production is definitely a creation of no one else's because of the complex, multi-layered applications of easily distinguishable instruments, such as guitars, pianos, and strings. Being that his musical influences include Dr. Dre, Rakim, and Quincy Jones, his material conveys a feeling that the music was made to reflect the intricacies of himself and not just to be rapped over.
In conclusion, Eric Wilson is a bright star on the rise. He is on a relentless journey to succeed and has proven that he has what it takes to ascend himself and others that work with him. Be on the look out for his debut release entitled, "The Warm Up", coming soon.
