Estrella’s highlight last year was being awarded the title of Scotland’s Best New Band 2007 after winning the Scottish Global Battle of the Bands Competition in the Arches, Glasgow.
The band then went on to represent Scotland in the World Final, which was held in London’s Underworld. Bands from as far away as America, Japan, Australia and Europe all competed for the top prize of $100,000 and a world tour. Although Estrella did not win they received some good feedback and interest.
Quite an achievement for the band, as three years ago, the Gunn brothers Paul (23) vocals, Luke (21) lead guitar and Nathan (20) bass guitar, along with long time friend, Brian Wade (18) drummer, were still practising in the Attic of their home in the very far North of Scotland!
To realise their potential and passion for music, the band became a full-time profession for all its members and, under management, they relocated to the Granite City. To add an extra dimension to their sound, rhythm guitarist, Graham Christie (20) now makes up this classic rock quintet.
Playing their vintage blues rock style with influence’s like Led Zeppelin, Free, Bad Company and many more. Estrella meaning “Star” in Spanish will continue to tour live music venues across the UK in 2008. With regular airplay, most Saturday and Sunday nights, on Northsound 1 and 2 Radio, Estrella have also featured on BBC Scotland, Moray Firth Radio in Inverness and STV.
Having previously played at the North East’s “Free at the Dee” Festival to an audience of over 30,000, watch out for Estrella at more UK festivals (and some biker events) this year! |
