Everclear was formed in Portland,Oregon USA in 1991. The lead vocals and guitar,Art Alexakis,who was born April 12,1962 in Los Angeles,California previously worked as a roadie for north west punk bands. In 1994,Greg Eklund,born April 18,1970 replaced drummer Scott Cuthbert.Craig Montoya,born September 14,1970 has been on bass and vocals. He has stuck with Everclear since the begining. Alexakis was heavy into drugs and alcohol. He decided to start his own band after his heart stopped temporarily after a cocaine overdose.Everclear made their deput in 1994 with "World Of Noise" including the hit single, "sparkle" released by Fire Records. Later they released a small album,"White Trash Hell" while they were still signed
with Fire Records.Later,they signed with Gary Gersh from Geffen Records. Geffen had previously signed two major bands,Nirvana and Sonic Youth.In 1995,they released their first album off Geffen Records,"Sparkle and Fade".Two years later they had success again with "So Much For The Afterglow"."Songs From An American Movie Vol:1" made them out to be very pop. "Songs From An American Movie Vol:2" released 4 months later helped restore their reputation as an alternative rock band.
