Fay Wray is the most beautiful woman to ever grace the planet Earth. Being the first with the ability to tame the largest Ape of all time with a mere flutter of the eyes, Fay Wray is quite possibly the single-most important anything EVER.
It also the name adopted by a 5 member group of Loyola University students living in the Uptown New Orleans area.
Fay Wray was formed in early fall of 2004. The founding members consisted of Kevin on piano and lead vocals, Pat on drums, and micheal on trumpet and back-up vocals. Stephen joined the band playing saxophone in November, shortly after our first show. After much thought and experimentation, it was decided that Fay Wra was still missing something. Even though it usually comes naturally with most bands, after four months, it was decided that we need a bass player named Jimmy. Luckily, Loyola University had its very own bass-playing Jimmy. Jimmy joined the band in mid-February of '05.
The closest thing to our "genre" would be a jazzy piano rock band. Beside the obvious influences of the Wu-Tang Clan and Sesame Street, we have more obscure influences, like The Beatles. Cake and influences are evident in the catchy hooks embedded in every song. The jazz sound comes from the horn and rythm section, whose main influences range from cool Miles Davis to the colossus Sonny Rollins.
Along with the standard love songs come little ditties about drugs and the many facets of sexual innuendo. Ironic self-depreciation abounds.
Hurricane Katrina came around, and Pat Fee was swept away to Chicago, never to be seen again. Jimmy was killed by German friendly fire in an effort to scare Katrina away.
We are currently working on finding a drummer, and are in the process of growing a Jimmy clone. |
