The six tunes in your hands represent the new blood that is FEAR OF MUSIC. Things have moved very quickly for this four piece from south Manchester since their first ever live show in spring 2003.
Still refreshingly young, Fear Of Music’s blend of accomplished songwriting, abrasive art-punk aesthetics and assured yet incendiary live performance, has quickly catapulted them into an enviable position as one of the most talked about new bands in the UK right now.
Their winning shows at In The City caused an unprecedented furore amongst assembled industry types looking for the next big thing, and garnered them ever more respect from a local scene currently booming with new talent.
With some members still in school, the lads used to sneak into Blowout in Chorlton and pass demos on to the djs. At first there was doubt that the young men handing out the demos could truly be the same to have produced the impressive sounds emanating from the speakers. But when the group invited non-believers back to their practice space, one of their bedrooms that is, all disbelief was laid to rest.
Since then the group has not looked back; booking sold out gigs across the summer of 2004 and well into 2005, albeit after they had all finished their exams! In The City was duly conquered, although the band couldn’t enjoy the winners party, as they were too young to attend.
So strong has interest been that Fear Of Music are already gracing the waves of Radio 1 and reminiscing of their first Glastonbury performance. So much, so young and indeed, so ready. Don’t be scared then, Fear Of Music are here and with it one of the country’s great young guitar hopes.
