1) Where are you based and where do you practise?
We all come from around the Radstock area and we all in the same year at Writhlington School. We practice twice a week, at James house (the drummer) and at school.
2) When did the band form?
The band formed about a year ago, and in November we reached a stage where we feel we have a good group of musicians.
3) How did the band get together?
Felix, George and James felt inspired to write some original music. Felix had been playing guitar for a while, and was confident with his playing. James and George both played guitar but George really wanted to sing and James enjoyed playing drums so the band was formed. Joe then agreed to join as the second guitarist and we recently recruited Alex who is now our bassist.
We knew each other before as we all go to the same school, and we are all good mates anyway, so there was already a good relationship between the members.
4) Who are the band influences?
We try to create music that is original and different from the crowd, so it is quite hard to describe our influences.
5) How would you describe your music?
We like to think of our music as “Progressive Party-Core Punk”. We try to create catchy, punchy riffs which are good to dance to, contrasting with melodic solos and heavy bits.
We all work together to write new songs. Usually Greg thinks of some lyrics, then Joe Felix and Alex come up with guitar and bass riffs to go with them and James figures out a cool drum part. Then we can add things like breakdowns and solos.
Sometimes it takes a long time to get something sounding good, for example key shape cock took about 2 months to write, but others just kind of happen without us even meaning to, like I want her dead which was a result of us just jamming, and everything just clicked into place.
6) Who is the band?
George Mills – better known as Greg Smeg.
George is the lead vocalist for the band. He used to play guitar, but had always thought about becoming a singer, and forming a band gave him a chance to do this. George has a reputation for his hilarious, crude and witty lyrics. He is a born entertainer, and is never afraid to make a fool of himself. In the past he has dropped his trousers in front of his whole school, and once wore a full body picachu outfit on stage. His singing ability has improved considerably since first forming the band, and some of our songs now feature highly entertaining vocal solos, such as in “key shaped cock”.
Felix Idiens - lead guitarist
He has been playing guitar for over 3 years now and is an essential part of the band with his reliable backing riffs and awesome solos. He is always coming up with new riffs and chords which are useful for writing stuff, and plays with a lot of character.
Joe Howlett – Rhythm Guitarist
Joe joined the band as our second guitarist as we really needed one. He had been playing guitar for a while, and agreed to join. He has really brought the band along with helping to write new material, and his fast catchy riffs really entertain the audience. He also plays trombone and keyboard, which if you listen closely might feature in a few of our songs in the future.
Alex Beck – Bass
Recently, Alex agreed to join the band as we really needed a bassist. He is better known for his talent on guitar, but has a knack of being able to play whatever instrument is put in front of him. Alex used to play Spanish Guitar and also Violin, but although he still plays a bit of Spanish, he gave up violin a few years ago. He also plays drums, and is the vocalist in another band. He likes to show off, and playing the guitar behind his head is not unusual!
James West – Drummer
James started playing drums when we formed the band. Like George he used to play guitar, but after playing on his dads kit, he knew drums were for him. He is very proud of his pearl eliminator double bass pedal, which he bought for £300 before he even had his own drum kit, and we don’t even use double bass in our songs! He has
7) How did the band get its name?
We were originally going to be called “8 Seconds Slow”, but we wanted something which would stand out from the rest and get us recognised. Then one of our mates suggested Felix And The Teabaggers which we liked the sound of and this name has stuck every since. Its good because if you look at the initials they spell FATT. People often ask why it is Felix, and not George or Joe ... Well George and the Teabaggers doesn’t have the same ring to it does it! It just doesn’t sound right. That’s all! Some people also ask what Teabagging means. I’m not going to tell you that!
8) What the band best (most memorable) gig so far?
We played in the Porter Butt in November with Fight or Flight, That was an awesome gig, the place was full and we got the whole crowd dancing. George also crowd surfed which was cool. Another good one was at out mates party in camerton hall where there was so much equipment, there was no room on stage for the band! So we ended up in places like on top of a piano, on top of a cudboard and standing on the amps. We always try and put on a good show, whoever our audience is. Once we played in a church for four people! We still showed them a good time!
9) Do the band have a demo? Where and when was it recorded? Where can people buy or download the songs?
We have recorded a demo CD featuring 9 of our original tracks. We recorded this at school just a few weeks ago with the help of Martin Miles, Music technician and legend on guitar. Some of the songs can be heard on our myspace at www.myspace.com/felixandtheteabaggers
10) Band website? Contact details?
We have a website which has band member profiles, photos and upcoming gigs. The address is www.fatt.co.nr
Please have a look and a listen, we love hearing from people about their opinions and what they think.
11) Up and coming gigs? Dates and venue?
We are doing a gig in Coleford Kings Head on the 29th April with Far From Mourning and Stoyic which should be good. We are also going to be playing at the Norton Mardi Gras on the 8th July at 3:30, so please come along and support us!
We will be organising more gigs in the near future, and we will keep you posted about them on our website and myspace, so keep you’re eye out.
If anyone is in a band and they would like us to support them or do a gig with them, just give us a shout, either on our myspace or on our website. We are always looking for gigs and would be happy to play anywhere!
