Filter is comprised of 2 members: 1) Richard Patrick who sings, plays guitar, plays bass, does programming, and plays drums. 2) Brian Liesegang who does the main programming, plays guitar, plays the keyboards, and plays drums. Patrick and Brian were both involved with numerous bands and both experimented with electronics at an early age before meeting through a friend and deciding to begin reviving industrial rock again. Their debut album 'Short Bus' was recorded by the two at a tiny house somewhere along the suburbs of Cleveland in early 1995. 'Short Bus' became a surprise hit due to the single "Hey Man, Nice Shot" (the song written about that infamous day when Kurt Cobain killed himself and modern rock was changed forever) which was played casually on MTV and alternative-rock radio stations. By the end of the summer 'Short Bus' reached gold status and Filter was up and running. Liesegang left in 1997 but Patrick still kept the Filter name for 1999's release of 'Title of Record'.
