At first, the members of Finch called themselves Numb. But, with their pop-emo music, they realized they were anything but. So, they changed their name to Finch. The group consists of Nate Barcalow (vocals), Randy Strohmeyer (guitar), Alex Lindres 9guitar), Derek Doherty (bass), and Alex Pappas (drums). The bands signing to a label is due in part to Randy’s determination. Even before joining Finch, Randy always admired Drive-Thru Records. He used to write them fan letters. After joining the band, he called the company. As a sort of pity offer, he was invited to bring Finch into the studio to let the company hear what they had. Drive-Thru was thrown away. They immediately liked the band and offered them a contract right there. Of course, the guys signed to the label. On October 9, 2001, Finch released their debut EP entitled Falling Into Place. The EP consisted of four songs and was produced by Chris Fudurich (The Hippos, Rx Bandits). Soon after, the group began recording their next album. What it is to Burn was released on March 11, 2002. The album was immediately placed on the Billboard Top 200. In order to promote, Finch toured with the Rx Bandits and performed on The Vans Warped Tour. They then went to Europe. After touring Europe, Finch returned to the United States to tour with New Found Glory and Something Corporate.
