From Teesside, North East U.K, the Flaming Mussolinis formed in 1984. They were signed to Portrait(CBS)and released two albums - 'Watching the Film' (1986) and 'Charmed Life' (1987) Also, five singles: 'Swallow Glass' 'My Cleopatra' 'Masuka Dan' 'Girl On A Train' and 'A Different Kind Of Love'.
The Mussolinis had a strong pop sensibility and were guitar orientated, with saxophone being a featured instrument.Although likened to U2 at the time, the band evidently had a trashy pop element that set them apart.
In fact, main influences were 70s glam(particularly Roxy Music and David Bowie with a hint of T.Rex - listen to 'Masuka Dan'), post punk and some of the more atmospheric bands from the early 80s such as The Psychedelic Furs and Echo and The Bunnymen. The band split in 1988. These songs have been put on this site so the world can at last hear what they sounded like!
