Originally the Force MDS were a street troupe known as the LD's, the group sang and danced on Greenwich Village street corners and the Staten Island ferry...Its original members included brothers Stevie D and Antoine "TCD" Lundy, their uncle Jesse Lee Daniels, and friends Trisco Pearson and Charles "Mercury" Nelson. Then Steve and the boys hooked up with DJ Dr. Rock billing themselves as DR Rock and the MC's....However in 1984 is when everything all changed for the young aspiring hip hop/R and B band..This is when they were signed to Tommy Boy Records and changed their name to the Force MD's ( MD standing for musical diversity)..The group had numerous R and B hits throughout the 80's but their breakthrough album Chillin' the first record to be distributed by Warner Bros. under a deal with Tommy Boy, made the Force M.D.'s a major commercial entity, and with good reason. From the ridiculous rap of "Force M.D.'s Meet the Fat Boys" (partially sung to the melody of "Gilligan's Island" and guest-starring the tubby three) to the catchy, falsetto-over-scratch-beats title track, the versatile M.D.'s mix credible urban savvy with enough smooth showbiz to please hard beatboys and mature soul fans alike. "Tender Love," a hit single from the Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis hit factory is spectacularly heart-rending; "One Plus One" and "Uh Oh!" are perfectly charming New Edition-styled pop with a bigger drum sound; "Walking on Air" might be mistaken for an O'Jays standard. (Anti-sexism footnote: the album was produced, arranged and mixed by a woman, talented T-Boy house producer Robin Halpin.)
Tender Love which was featured in the movie Krush Groove...1987 produced their first hip hop number one called Love is a House...
In 1990 Trisco Pearson and Charles "Mercury" Nelson left to pursue other venues...They were replaced by Rodney "Khalil" Lundy and Shawn Waters. Then in 1994 the group released the album Get Ready and they worked with various artists, producers and engineers including myself on this album....Then the next 4 years was rough on the group having 3 members die in 4 years...DJ DR Rock died due to a heart attack,Charles "Mercury" Nelson due to a heart attack and Antoine "TCD" Lundy due to Lou Gehrig's Disease)...Then in 1998 the group returned as a four man act and was signed to a contract with a lil help from some hometown friends the Wu-Tang Clan...
