The "FSMXL" sound is heavily influenced by the cut-up method of William Burroughs and audio looping composition methodology of Steve Reich. Dense layers of rhythm and melody transport the listener to dreamlike exotic otherworldly locations. Subtle melodic textures reminiscent of Brian Eno and Dead Can Dance weave their way throughout each mix, providing a film soundtrack ambience in keeping with FSMXL producer C.P.Bryan's day job role as a soundtrack composer. Bryan's latest release: "Invisible Throne of Gold" is a collection of extended and dub mixes of tracks originally appearing on the freesoundtrackmusic web site. Each of the new mixes expands on the original melodic or rhythmic elements, capturing more of the listener's attention and demanding a new context outside of their original purpose as background music for films or videos. On "Invisible Throne..." C.P.Bryan more fully explores the "sound collage" methodology as he cut 'n' mixes his way through music genres including Jazz, Industrial, Heavy Metal, Techno, Disco and Dub Reggae.
Review of a previous C.P.Bryan release:
"...blocked out in leviathan chunks, with electronically slidey lines snaking their way in and out of each mix... Bryan knows how to put one sound up against the other and record them pretty pristinely. For those who like the collision of industrial and hypno-dance musics, this treads a tangible midground." - Camera Obscura
