Are you happy Madelin, dear? I love you honey. How is your head? I’m not bothering you am I? No, it’s ok, Jadis. What should we do today? How about we pick some priphea flowers… NOT AGAIN MADELIN, YOU KNOW I DON’T LIKE THAT. But I love it. We’re practically the most powerful witch and all you want to do is pick flowers? Lets go to the temple. I want to see if we got any gifts today. Can we pick flowers after that? Fine. Promise me this time. I promise.
NO GIFTS AGAIN?!! Calm down, these are good people. Most of them are busy following their own paths. They can’t all have your ideals, Jadis. DON’T YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL MADELIN? THIS PAIN, WHAT IS IT? I want them to love me. Why do they stay away from us? Most of them are studying to be hermits?!!! I could make them soooooo happy… I do love your magic, Jadis. I know you do, don’t you my love. Are you ready to fly back? Oooooooooooooo I love when we fly… but can’t we pick some flowers first? Jadis, wait! Tomorrow we will, we’ll fly longer today to make up for it. But I want to. We never do what I want to do anymore.
No! Stop it. I don’t want to hurt the seagulls. Jadis, please let me have control! I don’t like when you hurt the seagulls. Haahahahaahaha. AHAHAAAHEEEHEEHEHEEHE. We’re just playing. They are like the priphea. And we are picking them. No, you are hurting them and I know it… Oh my head. Jadis please… C’mon Madelin, lets go to the fair… Ok…?
Oh, Aslon. Why does she haunt me? I can’t control myself. Jadis wants them to give her gifts. She is going to hurt them if they don’t give her what they give you. I can’t stop her anymore. I’m not allowed to see my friends anymore. She keeps me on this island and I can’t fly away. And last night at the fair… She vowed to destroy my friends if they would not worship her as they do you. The people are afraid… Aslon help me… “WHENEVER YOU TURN INTO JADIS YOU SHALL BE TURNED TO STONE UNTIL YOU CAN BE HAPPY LOVING MADELIN AGAIN.
SLEEP NOW MADELIN, IT WON’T HURT WHEN YOU AWAKEN…”
Oh, It’s freezing. I know HE did this to me. Madelin! MAAADELIIIIIIIIIIN!!!!! Where are you dear? All alone I guess. “SLEEP JADIS, OR STOP DESIREING TO HURT THE PEOPLE AND YOU WILL BE FREE” What is that sound? It sounds like that cursed music. I can’t make out the words though…
In the form of stone she never aged. The anger built up over the years of despair, depression, and boredom. All she could do was think and think. As the years went on she became more and more powerful, more and more angry, more and more Jadis. After 100 years Madelin was completely dead. One day after what seemed like forever she realized she was more aware of other people of her world’s senses and feelings. She could see and hear through some people and cats that would get close enough to her…
What?!! They won’t find me here. The perfect people want to make me crumble. Now I know it was HIM. How else could they know what happened to me. Or is it me who wants to die? Oh my head… Its so cold down here.
…she also found that she could make them think whatever she wanted them to… at least for a second. Well over time she developed this skill and her range of awareness. Sort of like developing your vocal range.
221 years after Jadis disappeared people started building stone and porcelin sculptures of Jadis. This became an obsession and people began to think of her and fear her as a god. They still celebrated the day of Madelin’s disappearance. “Happy Madelin,” they’d say to each other. They just did this to try and cope with the fear.
A rather talented philosopher (there were many philosophers in that world… so many, in fact, that psychology was not very much needed or studied in depth) became obsessed with this feeling he named anger. When he thought about it, the only reason a soul would want to hurt another soul would be out of confusion. Evil seemed to be linked to confusion too. But for some reason, he had to experience it. Perhaps to see if he could come back alive, of maybe just out of divine curiosity. Whatever the reason, Jadis eventually gained control of him and persuaded his mind to create a giant bell in honor of her that she would secretly put a spell on she had been developing over time.
The tower bell by the sea. People would come from all around to see this bell and pray to Madelin before it. The bell was made of the most potent witch’s ingredients, mainly stone and gold. It was beautiful and three of the most beautiful porcelin Jadis statues were placed by it. The prettiest one was placed under the bell. The Eternal Trinity. They prayed for Jadis’ redemption.
The next year, 225 years after the disappearing, the day of Madelin was celebrated at The Eternal Trinity. The party lasted all day and then finally at night the music began but as they rang the bell the wind began to blow so loud that it drowned out the music. As the skies turned red the sea boiled with Jadis’ hatred. Everything that had ever lived in that world was alive for a moment and in this moment they were aware of everything that had ever been and ever would be while their bodies turn to stone. As for their souls… the shock of the intense awareness left each soul in scarred scattered pieces all across the universe and time.
The intense awareness for Jadis was meant to destroy her as she couldn’t stand being any longer. Alas, the blow only scarred her soul but it brought Madelin back to life. She awoke in the porcelin statue under the bell. She awoke as Madelin for the anger from Jadis was almost spent destroying the souls. But it had been so intense that Madelin’s brain couldn’t take it and Madelin felt Jadis’ anger for the first time. When this happened the two became one and Aslon’s spell was broken, though she called herself Jadis ever since.
After 9 years she couldn’t stand the loneliness but couldn’t bear to end it after being conscious for so long. She turned herself to stone so that someday she might live again in happiness. Before she did this, she put a new spell on the bell. If ever anyone rang it, she would awaken. But the anger from Jadis’ spell on the bell was still too strong. If ever anyone was to ring the bell Jadis’ world would crumble and burn. She’d often think back to the time just before her return... |
