Funeral for a Friend consists of Matt Davies (vocals), Kris Roberts (guitar), Darran Smith (Guitar), Gareth Davies (bass), and Ryan Richards (drums). The beginning of Funeral for a Friend began with a band called January thirst. When January Thirst split in December 2001, remaining members formed Funeral for a Friend. The group’s name is generally assumed to have been spawned from the Elton John album under the same title. This is not correct. Actually, the group got their name from a hardcore rock group from Florida, Planes Mistaken For Stars, that had a song entitled, “Funeral for a Friend.” The members, who are all from the Valleys of South Wales, formed the band in early 2002. Only a few months after forming, the group recorded their debut EP entitled Between Order and Model. The EP, which was released on August 12, 2002 was produced and mixed by Joe Gibb (Jane’s Addiction, Catatonia, Leftfield) on Swansea’s Mighty Atoms Label. The group then began touring with bands such as Boy Sets Fire, Finch, and The Prophets. The single, “10:45 Amsterdam Conversations” received a lot of noise. Only six months after the EP’s release, Funeral for a Friend, found themselves showcasing their music in front of top Recording Labels. They chose to sign with Infectious Records (a subsidiary of Warner).
In April 2002 (October 21, 2002 in the United States), Funeral for a Friend released Seven Ways to Scream your Name. The EP contained the single, “This Year’s Most Open Heartbreak.” The video for the song was done by Darren Doane (Blink-182, Jimmy Eat World, Pennywise). The video had a huge amount of airplay on MTV2 and Kerrang!TV. This was also chosen to b the first video to air on Sky TV’s new Scuzz channel.
On July 28, 2003, Funeral for a Friend released their third EP entitled Juneau. That summer they headlined a tour in the United Kingdom. In September that year, the group was chosen to headline for Iron Maiden in the U.K. On October 6, 2003, Funeral for a Friend released their debut album entitled Casually Dressed and Deep into Conversation. The group is expected to become a huge hit as they continue to quickly build a dedicated fan base.

| If you don't want to use the labels then don't. Personally I hate them too but I just listen to whatever I want, ignoring the labels. :) | CoNe_LoVeR_666 | I listen to them whatever the labels are if i like them im gunna listen to them no one can stop me i like what i like! i still dont get why people and bands get labels though and anyway no one has the right to decide a label for someone else! dont you think! | lilygoth | Yeh I agree with that. It's no one's place to decide, essentially, who you are. Labels suck. Last year I was asked like 3 times whether I was a mosher by the popular kids and I was like, er no. I'm just me, I have no label kind of thing. | CoNe_LoVeR_666 | i no i always get asked if im a 'greebo'or 'goth' im like im me! I also get asked if the devils ok and one that keeps coming up is 'how was satan in bed last night?!'Im just like yeah ok then! weirdos! | lilygoth | lables are just used for society to catorgarise(SP?)groups that are similar, like punks, goths, and grungers, their music IS completely different, but in society it is all classed as rock. It's to make things easier for people to talk about or to understand. lables are used everywhere and cant be escaped, like toddler, child, adolescent, adult etc...it's all about soceit and its groups. Lables aren't about individuality, which we all are but you need a lable to put a "group" of individuals under when be mentioned or spoken about. | bobotheclown | *society*
*being mentioned...* | bobotheclown | That's all true and everything but labels are still annoying..... | CoNe_LoVeR_666 | | oh definately, i couldn't agree more, lol. | bobotheclown | | LABELS SUCK!!! | lilygoth | I call them welsh :D hehe. Yeah everything is labelled these days. How depressing. | agirlcalledkill | | | |
