| George Garzone, John Lockwood and Bob Gullotti are classicists in the true sense of the word. The many years spent as performers and Jazz educators has immersed them in the history of the music and enabled them to pass it on to their many students (Joshua Redman and Branford Marsalis, for example) are two of Garzone's former pupils. As members of the group The Fringe, they have been able to practice what they preach. The cult-like following over more that a quater of a centur for The Fringe is based on their ability to present the totality of the Jazz experience in each of their performances. This, his fourth album for NYC Records was inspiried by Garone and The Fringe's increasingly frequent performances in New York City to packed audiences with Mike Mainieri as guest solist. |
