When Rich and P linked up to build Ground Zero Studios and form GF aka Goodfellaz, they made a commitment to stay focused, hungry and confident. And though they’ve had success on the local scene and even a shout out on MTV’s “Sweet Sixteen,” the duo isn’t popping champagne like they won a championship ring, but they know they’ve got a winning combination.
In 2006, GF exploded onto Cleveland’s music scene with their first CD, “Lyfe After Da Hype”. The group became an immediate sensation behind the popularity of club bangers like “Thang Wet” and “Dirty Mouth” and the sultry “Backseat”. Within a couple of months, the group began touring the Midwest and opening for major national recording artists like Bubba Sparxx, Lil Scrappy, Project Pat, Pitbull, Young Dro and Young Joc.
That year they won the “Best New Group” award from the Ohio Hip Hop Awards Music Association. In 2007, the OHHAMA nominated GF for “Best Group” and “Writer of the Year”.
Rich and P pen intriguing tracks and keep fans on their feet thanks in large part to their similarities and unique styles. While Rich and P share similar view points, each brings a different flow and creative interpretation to the music.
Rich, 20, boasts superlative confidence with just a dash of humility. His lyrics vary from serious to comedic, while providing carefully crafted metaphors and punch lines as demonstrated on “Mariah’s Voice”. His inviting and charismatic persona isn’t contained to the booth, as he also hosted a syndicated hip-hop show, featuring guests like Lil Scrappy, Ray Cash and Wish Bone.
P, 19, is the producer that can rap and control the maestro. P’s musical lineage begins with his father, who was an accomplished saxophone, piano and clarinet player. P also plays the piano and holds down all production for GF. His beats range from hardcore hip-hop bangers to melodic and soulful R&B tracks. While known for his trademark line, “It’s ya boy P, you know I made the beat,” P also exhibits skills on the mic which are best displayed on the heartfelt “Stuck”.
With the streets buzzing from the recently released “Hollywood” and “Highs & Lows” mixtapes, GF is in prime position to drop their next official CD, “It Iz What It Iz” in the summer of 2008. The duo is even more focused, hungry and confident and believes that their winning combination makes them solid contenders for the championship.
