Vasudeva Clayton was born in Hawaii . Govinda Clayton was born in Detroit . At the age of four they were both placed into a Hindu monastery. For ten years they studied the ancient philosophies of the East. These boys traveled through many places like Detroit, New York, Hawaii, West Virginia and as far away as India. From an early age, they were taught to sing Indian folk songs and to play a variety of Eastern instruments.
Time went by and gradually the world of modern western music made its impression felt. The rap movement started to flourish. Now young men, they embraced hiphop music. In 1990 at the ages of fifteen and sixteen they began writing lyrics and rapping. They got a sampler keyboard, started a rap group and moved back to Detroit. For a few years they wrote songs, composed and soon after broke their musical innocence performing at a rap show at Detroit's The Shelter.
Following that period of time and after many lessons in adjusting to life in the city they were approached by a childhood friend. He was starting a band and wondered if the boys were ready for a change.
They joined up with the alternative rock group called Rajasi, in Ontario, Canada. V and G wrote a majority of the songs from the band's two cds which sold a few thousand copies. They composed and toured with the band for five years throughout Ontario and Michigan and did some shows in Los Angeles and West Virginia. In 1998 the brothers grabbed their gear, hit the road once again and headed to Los Angeles. Finding the overall creation of music to be easier between the two of them, they decided to do all of the writing, composing, and producing themselves.
Their preference to the dance floor brought their music to festivals, raves, house parties and campfire serenades. They were always creating and always searching for their sound. They travelled far and long while fine tuning their craft, building an array of musical tools and growing full circle, into musical maturity. Though they have already been here for some time, it is almost as though they have just arrived.
