The question has been asked an uncountable number of times;
"What kind of music do you play?"
For some bands, the answer is easy. "We're a hardcore band" or "we're a ska band." Ask any member of Ghosts of Sherwood that question and the answer will almost always be similar to "well... it's kind of hard to explain."
That's because Ghosts of Sherwood is not exactly like anything you've heard before. In some ways it's like one thing, in other ways it's like something completely different. GoS is trying something old while trying something new. They are trying to resurrect the "hair metal" of the 80's. Maybe a better word than resurrect would be reincarnate. Because Ghosts of Sherwood is not your daddy's rock & roll band.
While it is true that they take influences from bands such as Poison, Van Halen and Judas Priest, they also draw inspiration from Fu Manchu, Misfits, Rise Against, Avenged Sevenfold and CKY. Their music blends punk riffs with metal licks and grungy tones. GoS bring back the lost arts of shredding solos and narrative vocals. They throw those things into the mix along with heavily distorted rhythm, booming bass tones and blasting drumbeats along with the occasional razor sharp scream.
Ghosts of Sherwood can not be thrown into any one genre. They combine so many different sounds and variations to create a sound so familiar yet so unique. |
