| The Gift were formed in early August 2004. Jamie Dunbar, his brother Cailean, teamed up with old friends Ben Marshall and Ewan Baird. Their main inspiration came after seeing The Darkness perform at T-in-the-park. It was decided there and then that a new band should be formed. All members pledged that they would remain focused on playing their own material and to have fun while performing it. "I'm in a band with my brother and my two best mates."
Each member had been in several bands previously, so each was an experienced musician. They began writing material immediatley and after only three practises together, the call came for them to open the local band event in the area.
Crowds were stunned when frontman Jamie Dunbar walked onstage wearing a full gold catsuit and proceeded to rock the house to the foundations with their own material and classic covers such as AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin and The Darkness. This was a very brave thing to do as most of the other bands/spectators were into heavy/nu metal. Critisms were heard, but too many had enjoyed the event to care.
Many more songs were written and were performed at several high-profile events throughout the next months including a performance infront of their teachers and fellow students at their School's Annual Talent Show. Such a performance was daunghting for the band, but after winning over the crowd's affection with ease, critisms were drowned out by compliments.
